Casting Clinic #6
The Foundry of the Future, Trends and Challenges

On December 15th, 2016, the 6th edition of the Casting Clinic took place to define, together with the participants, the themes of the Casting Clinic sessions for 2017.

For that matter, Vítor Anjos, Director of the CITNM, and Jorge Fonseca from Kaizen Institute, conducted the session in order to obtain feedback on the opportunities that are most important for the future or threats that could be a major obstacle to the evolution of the industry.

Based on the Kaizen methodology, participants were asked to identify the topics that they consider most relevant in the following business areas:

  • Performance
  • Business plan
  • Relationship with the customer/client
  • Environment
  • Safety
  • Personnel qualification

The organization and systematization of the proposed themes led to a healthy debate among the participants resulting in the ten topics to be discussed in the 2017 sessions:

    1st Quarter
  • Organizational Behaviour
  • Internal Pollution / Applicable legislation / Good practices
  • Training

  • 2nd Quarter
  • Work structure
  • Data management
  • Process

  • 3rd Quarter
  • Energy Management
  • Management and positioning

  • 4th Quarter
  • Relationship with the customer/client
  • Markets and leagues

Finally, the implementation of a new session model that aims to increase its attractiveness, improve knowledge sharing in the foundry department and debate topics of common interest among the participants were discussed, maximizing the results.

Another development was the alteration of the sessions for Wednesdays, in order to allow and improve the presence of the Universities.

The next session will take place on January 11th, at 5:00 pm at the CITNM facilities in Águeda.
