Customized alloys for weight reduction in castings.
The development of customized alloys for weight reduction in castings, aims to reduce the weight of castings used for the automotive industry, to allow a weight saving on the vehicle, resulting in higher fuel efficiency and less emissions.
The weight saving in the casting is achieved through the development of customized alloys that enhance the required mechanical properties needed for the casting in operating conditions. By increasing the strength of the material, it is possible to reduce the wall thickness and/or massiveness of the casting.
The project is scheduled to start in February 2018 and will be developed during one year. Led by Sakthi Portugal, this project counts on CITNM, Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, IK4-Azterlan and Veigalan as partners.
